Little Things That Annoy Me #1

The increase in TV volume during commercial breaks.

Is this just a UK thing or does it happen all over the globe? Ramping up the volume during the ad breaks doesn't make me sit up and take notice of your stupid product, it just sends me diving for the mute button.

Grrr..

-sigh-

The same annoying thing here in Finland too.

And I was thinking it was happening only here.

Maybe we should unite and do something for it (?)

Anyway it has made me minimaze watching these channels.

Ad breaks are as good a reason as any to get Sky+ or any other form of digital recorder - get it to automatically record everything you watch then sit back and view them when you want (not at the scheduled time) and skip the breaks!

This probably happens everywhere. Even on the Isles of Scilly..

During the 60 minute radio show I present every Saturday lunchtime I'm required to play three sets of adverts. Each time I'm getting quicker at diving on the "gain" control to reduce the volume, but they still seem to go out at a louder volume than everything else.

Irritating from both ends I suspect.

It's because the audio in the adverts uses compression to make it sound punchier. news.bbc.co.uk/.../4679575.stm
