We have governmental approval!

0

It’s official.  Her Majesty’s government have given approval to our wedding, so there ain’t no stopping us now!  Jocelyn pitched up early doors at the British Consulate in LA last week to apply in person for a fiancee visa.  With her she took plenty of supporting evidence including:

  • My birth certificate
  • My passport
  • My bank statements
  • A letter from my employers
  • A letter from our vicar who is marrying us next year
  • Photographs of us together
  • A diamond engagement ring!
  • Mortgage documents
  • …and even my mother, who was over in California to meet Jocelyn’s family!

It was a phenomenal relief to us both to get this stage of the process completed.  There’ll be more bureacracy to contend with in the coming months and years, but this was a vital step.  If for some strange reason Joce had been denied a fiancee visa it would have really scuppered our plans.  Thankfully that didn’t happen, and we now have six months of wedding-related plans to get our teeth into!

Bridal Shower

1

Hello, Just a note to mention that, following the American tradition, I (Jocelyn) will have a bridal shower on Saturday, October 23. My best friend Lisa is hosting and it will be held at her mom’s house in San Jose. For those not familiar with the concept of a bridal shower, basically it’s the American version of a hen party, although a little more sedate. Usually it’s held in the afternoon and people play silly games, eat, have cake, dress up and give the bride gifts that will embarrass her (I am hoping to avoid this last tradition).

Wedding List (USA)

Now then. If it was up to me, I would be sending out links to Amazon wishlists in the hope of receiving CDs as wedding gifts, but Jocelyn has informed me that this simply isn’t the done thing. So it is that we have now "registered" with Macys.com to receive Vera Wang "Love Knots" Toasting Flutes and other strange things whose purpose I don’t understand. You can find our wedding wishlist thing by following this link.

For our British guests, worry not, we will be registering with a UK store in due course!

We’re getting married!

1

On Easter Sunday 2004 Jocelyn Grace McGhee agreed to a proposal of marriage from myself, Ian Fraser Nelson.  This website will, over time, hopefully provide our friends and family with the news and information they require in order to join us for our special day, which is scheduled for St. George’s Day 2005 (Saturday 23 April).

Our wedding is to take place in York, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom.  We will be tying the knot at All Saints church on Pavement, followed by a reception and wedding breakfast at St. William’s College (York Minster conference centre).

More details will appear on this site as and when arrangements are made.  Thanks to everyone for the many engagement cards and messages we received; they were all very much appreciated.
